Which brokers are best for day trading?
The best day-trading broker is regulated, cheap per trade at your volume, and stable on the platform you use. For UK traders, Pepperstone meets all three for most profiles, which is why it is our first pick. Capital.com is second, and XS third.
Day trading means many entries and exits, so small costs repeat. A broker that is cheap for one trade a week can be expensive at ten a day. If Pepperstone fits your plan, you can open a Pepperstone account and test your routine on the demo first.
What a UK day trader needs, and what Pepperstone offers
| Need | Why it matters | At Pepperstone |
|---|---|---|
| Strong regulation | Your money sits with the broker | FCA, FRN 684312 |
| Low cost per round trip | Costs repeat every trade | Razor: raw from 0.0 pips + about $3.50 per lot per side |
| No commission on indices | Index day trades are frequent | None on index CFDs and spread bets |
| A platform you trust | You act fast during news | MT4, MT5, cTrader, TradingView, own app |
| A demo to rehearse | Mistakes cost money live | Demo account available |
Who are the most trusted brokers for day trading in the UK?
We measure trust by regulation, not by online reviews, which are easy to fake. An FCA-authorised broker must keep client money in segregated accounts, and UK retail clients get negative-balance protection, so you cannot lose more than your deposit.
Of the brokers we rank, Pepperstone and Capital.com are FCA-authorised. XS is not, so a UK client there would rely on a foreign regulator instead. Check any firm yourself on the FCA register; our guide on how to verify a broker's licence shows how.
Our three brokers for a UK day trader
| Broker | FCA status | Pricing | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pepperstone | Authorised, FRN 684312 | Standard (no commission) or Razor (raw + commission) | Our first pick |
| Capital.com | Authorised, 793714 | No trading commission; spread only | Simple own app |
| XS | Not FCA-authorised | Standard (no commission) or Elite (from 0.1 pips + $6 per lot round turn) | Free-signals route |
Which broker is best for day trading gold?
For gold, we again pick Pepperstone, but choose the account with care. Spot gold (XAUUSD) has no commission on Standard; on Razor it is the one commodity that carries a commission. A gold day trader should compare both on the demo: check the Standard spread against Razor's spread plus its gold commission, at the hour you trade.
Gold often moves hardest around US data and the New York open, and spreads can widen at the same moment. Size every trade from the stop-loss, not the leverage. Our guide to the best broker for gold trading compares gold costs in more depth.
Which broker is best for day trading indices?
Pepperstone, for UK index day traders, because index CFDs carry no commission there and trades closed the same day avoid overnight funding. Its list covers the UK100, GER40, US500, NAS100 and US30, among more than 20 cash indices.
Plan around the underlying market. The GER40 tends to be most active after the German open, and US indices after the New York open. Outside those hours, spreads can be wider and moves thinner. Trading hours vary by symbol, so check them on the platform.
