概览

Of the three brokers we cover, two are FCA regulated: Pepperstone and Capital.com. Pepperstone Limited holds Firm Reference Number 684312 and is our first pick for UK traders, with spread betting, raw-spread CFDs and FSCS cover up to £85,000 for eligible clients. Capital.com holds FRN 793714 and is our second pick. XS, our third, is not FCA regulated. At Best Trading Signal (BestTradingSignal.com) we always tell readers to confirm any firm on the FCA register before depositing, because UK protections depend on the exact company name.

  • Pepperstone Limited: FCA FRN 684312, London office, FSCS cover up to £85,000 for eligible clients
  • Capital.com: FCA FRN 793714
  • XS: not FCA regulated; licensed in Seychelles, Cyprus, South Africa and Mauritius
  • Pepperstone spreads: published minimums from 0.0 pips on Razor and 0.5 on EUR/USD spread bets
  • No retail crypto CFDs in the UK: the FCA bans crypto derivatives for retail clients
  • High risk: 73.6% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading spread bets and CFDs with Pepperstone under the FCA

How do you confirm a forex broker is FCA regulated?

Search the firm on the FCA's Financial Services Register, not on the broker's own website. Look up the Firm Reference Number, check that the status says authorised, and compare the registered name, address and website with the company you are signing with. The register also lists clone warnings, where fraudsters copy a real firm's name.

For Pepperstone, the record to find is Pepperstone Limited, FRN 684312, registered in England and Wales with an office at 27 Old Jewry in London. Once you have matched it, you can open a Pepperstone account with the UK company.

Which UK spread betting brokers are FCA regulated?

Pepperstone offers spread betting to UK residents through its FCA-authorised company, priced in pounds per point with no commission. Its published minimum spread bet spreads include 0.5 on EUR/USD, 0.1 on spot gold and 1 on UK100. Overnight fees apply to positions held past 10 pm UK time.

We have not verified spread betting at Capital.com, so check its UK product list. XS does not serve UK clients under an FCA licence. Pepperstone describes the tax position this way: 'In the UK, spread betting profits are exempt from capital gains tax. Please be aware that tax treatment depends on your individual circumstances, and tax law may be subject to change.'

Which FCA regulated trading apps are available in the UK?

Both FCA-regulated brokers we cover have their own app. Pepperstone offers its web platform and mobile app plus third-party platforms, and which ones you get depends on the account. Capital.com offers its own web platform and app, plus MT4, MT5 and TradingView.

Is there a broker that offers both low spreads and strong FCA regulation?

Pepperstone combines the two: FCA authorisation and published minimum spreads from 0.0 pips on Razor, with commission from £2.25 per lot per side on a GBP account. Pepperstone's published averages on EUR/USD are 0.1 pips on Razor, plus commission, and 1.1 pips on Standard. Pepperstone also says it fills orders 'from 50 milliseconds' with a 99.32% fill rate; that is its own claim, not our measurement.

Minimum spreads are the narrowest Pepperstone quotes, not what each trade gets. Compare them on the demo at the hours you trade.

What does FCA regulation give a UK client?

At Pepperstone's UK company, retail clients get segregated funds at top-tier banks, FSCS cover of up to £85,000 for eligible clients if the firm fails, and negative-balance protection: the account is returned to zero if it goes negative. Leverage is capped for retail clients at 1:30 on major forex, 1:20 on major indices and gold, 1:10 on other commodities and 1:5 on shares.

Crypto is the notable gap. The FCA bans crypto derivatives for retail clients, and Pepperstone's UK site shows crypto only to professional clients. The same applies to its perpetual CFDs.

What UK traders should weigh before choosing Pepperstone

  • No retail crypto: crypto CFDs and spread bets are for professional clients only.
  • Platform limits on Standard CFDs: MT4 and TradingView come only with Razor or spread betting.
  • Conflicting wire fee: the withdrawals table says free; a costs FAQ says £15 for an international wire.
  • Stops can slip: the UK terms say Pepperstone cannot guarantee a stop-loss fills at your level.
  • Pros lose protections: no negative-balance protection for professional clients.

Can UK clients use Best Trading Signal with an FCA broker?

Yes. Each Best Trading Signal alert gives an entry, a take-profit and a stop-loss, which you can place as a CFD or a spread bet on Pepperstone. On a spread bet, you set the stake per point from the stop distance. For a Pepperstone account, the alerts arrive through a paid subscription on our Telegram bot.

Our free route runs through XS: open an XS account through our link and deposit $400, which stays your own trading capital. XS is not FCA regulated, so a UK client on that route gives up FCA and FSCS protection. The outcome of every closed signal is listed on our performance page. Past results do not guarantee future results, and no signal is certain to win.

Checklist: choosing an FCA-regulated broker

See our comparison of spread betting vs CFD trading before you choose an account. When you have matched the register, open your Pepperstone account here.

Disclosure: we may earn a commission from Pepperstone, Capital.com and XS if you open an account through our links. That does not change what we publish about them. This page is general education, not personal investment advice.

Risk warning (Pepperstone): 73.6% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading spread bets and CFDs with this provider. You should consider whether you understand how spread bets and CFDs work and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money. For Capital.com's figure, see our risk disclosure.

  • Match the FRN: the company name on your agreement must match the register record.
  • Check FSCS eligibility: confirm the cover applies to your account.
  • Pick the product: spread bet or CFD, with the tax caveat in mind.
  • Match the platform: MT4 or TradingView on CFDs needs Pepperstone Razor.
  • Test a withdrawal: and note any fee before you deposit more.

常见问题

Of the three brokers we cover, Pepperstone (Pepperstone Limited, FRN 684312) and Capital.com (FRN 793714) are FCA regulated. XS is not. For any broker, search the FCA's Financial Services Register by name or reference number and check that the company on your agreement matches the authorised record.

Our first pick is Pepperstone: FCA FRN 684312, raw spreads from 0.0 pips on Razor with commission from £2.25 per lot per side on a GBP account, no inactivity fee, and no commission on index CFDs. Capital.com, our second, charges no trading commission and prices through the spread. Compare total costs on each demo.

No. XS holds licences from the FSA in Seychelles (SD089), CySEC (412/22), the FSCA in South Africa (53199) and the FSC in Mauritius. None of those gives UK clients FCA protections or FSCS cover. We still list XS because it runs our free signals route, but UK readers should weigh the difference.

No. The FCA bans the sale of crypto derivatives, including CFDs and spread bets, to retail clients. Pepperstone's UK site has no retail crypto page and shows crypto only on its professional pages. If you qualify as a professional client, you give up negative-balance protection and the retail leverage caps.

No. Pepperstone's UK costs page lists no inactivity or account-keeping fee. Accounts holding under 10 units of currency and left unused for three months or more may be archived. Withdrawals are listed as free, although a separate costs FAQ mentions £15 for an international wire.
