Does Pepperstone offer a pro account in Australia?

Does Pepperstone offer a pro account in Australia? Yes, for wholesale or sophisticated clients, with up to 1:500 on forex and gold but fewer retail protections.

Trumpai

Yes. Pepperstone offers a pro account in Australia through Pepperstone Group Limited (AFSL 414530), for clients who qualify as sophisticated investors or wholesale clients. Pros get up to 1:500 on forex and gold, against 1:30 for retail, but lose the retail leverage caps and most of their negative-balance protection. Pepperstone is our first pick for Australian traders who meet the test. At Best Trading Signal (BestTradingSignal.com) we rank Capital.com second, which holds an ASIC licence, and XS third, the broker behind our free signals, which holds no ASIC licence.

  • Two routes in: trading experience plus a quiz, or a wealth test with an accountant's certificate
  • Wealth test: net assets of AUD 2.5 million, or gross income of AUD 250,000 a year for 2 years
  • Pro leverage: up to 1:500 on forex and gold; 1:400 on major indices in Pepperstone's table
  • What you give up: retail leverage caps and full negative-balance protection
  • Negative balance: pros get a one-time cover of up to USD 100,000 only
  • High risk: Pepperstone's Australian site publishes no loss percentage; leverage magnifies losses as fast as gains

What are the eligibility criteria for a pro trading account in Australia?

At Pepperstone, you qualify through one of two routes. The sophisticated investor route rests on trading experience and a knowledge quiz. The wholesale client route rests on wealth and needs a certificate from a qualified accountant. Meeting either moves you out of the retail category, with everything that follows from that.

If you clearly meet one of the tests below, you can open a Pepperstone account and then apply for pro status. If you are close to a threshold, wait: a borderline application is not a good reason to give up protections.

Sophisticated investor (activity)20 or more leveraged FX or CFD trades per quarter over 4 quarters in the past 2 years, each AUD 50,000 or more notionalKnowledge quiz
Sophisticated investor (experience)At least 1 year in a professional trading roleKnowledge quiz
Wholesale client (wealth)Net assets of AUD 2.5 million, or gross income of AUD 250,000 a year for each of the last 2 yearsQualified accountant's certificate

How do I qualify as a wholesale client for a pro trading account in Australia?

Through the wealth test. Pepperstone accepts wholesale status under section 761G(7) of the Corporations Act when a qualified accountant certifies that you have net assets of at least AUD 2.5 million, or gross income of at least AUD 250,000 in each of the last two financial years.

The certificate is the evidence; your trading record does not matter on this route. Ask your accountant for a current certificate, send it to Pepperstone with your application, and keep a copy for your records.

What is the difference between a pro and a retail trading account in Australia?

The products, platforms and prices are the same. What changes is the rulebook. ASIC's CFD product intervention order protects retail clients with leverage caps, a margin close-out rule and negative-balance protection. Wholesale and sophisticated clients sit outside those retail protections, so the broker can offer far more leverage.

What protections do you lose with a pro trading account?

Three matter most. First, the retail leverage caps: on the same margin you can open a forex position more than fifteen times larger than a retail client could. Second, the margin close-out rule that ASIC requires for retail clients, which closes positions when your equity falls to half of the margin required. Third, negative-balance protection: Pepperstone gives pros a one-time cover of up to USD 100,000, and after that you can owe money beyond your deposit.

Some things do not change. Your money is still with an ASIC-licensed company. Pepperstone names no compensation scheme for any Australian client, retail or pro, and stop-loss orders can still slip in a fast market.

What leverage do pro trading accounts get in Australia?

At Pepperstone, up to 1:500 on major and minor forex pairs and gold. Its costs table lists 1:400 on major indices, 1:20 on energy and on shares and ETFs, and 1:10 on Bitcoin and Ether. Some limits do not rise much at all: other crypto stays at 1:2 and metals other than gold at 1:10.

Pepperstone's pages are not consistent. The accounts page sums it up as 'Pro 500:1', and the crypto spreads page shows a pro-only dynamic tier of 400:1 on the first $50,000. Check the margin on each symbol in your platform once pro status is active.

What a Pepperstone pro account does not fix

  • Conflicting leverage figures: indices show 1:400 in one table and 500:1 on another page.
  • Limited negative-balance cover: one-time, up to USD 100,000, then you are liable.
  • No compensation scheme: Pepperstone names none for Australian clients.
  • Stop-losses can slip: in a fast market, Pepperstone cannot guarantee your exit price.
  • Crypto stays tight: pros get 1:10 on Bitcoin and Ether and 1:2 on other coins.

Do Best Trading Signal's alerts need a pro account?

No. Each Best Trading Signal alert has an entry, a take-profit and a stop-loss, and the stop decides your position size, not the leverage cap. A retail account at 1:30 is enough to follow them. Pepperstone account holders subscribe through our Telegram bot on a paid plan.

The free route is through XS: open an XS account through our link and deposit $400, which remains your own trading capital. Note that XS holds no ASIC licence. Our performance page logs each closed signal, wins and losses alike. Past results do not guarantee future results, and no signal is certain to win.

Checklist before you apply for Pepperstone Pro

Our guide to negative balance protection explains what changes when that cover runs out. If pro status still makes sense, open your Pepperstone account here.

Disclosure: we may earn a commission from Pepperstone, Capital.com and XS if you open an account through our links. That does not change what we publish about them. This page is general education, not personal investment advice.

Risk warning (Pepperstone): Pepperstone's Australian site publishes no loss percentage; read its PDS and Target Market Determination before you trade. Elsewhere, 73.6% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading spread bets and CFDs with this provider under the FCA, 74.1% under CySEC, 76.1% under BaFin, 80% under the SCB and 88% under the CMA (Kenya). You should consider whether you understand how CFDs work and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money.

  • Pick your route: trading record plus quiz, or accountant's certificate.
  • Write down your new risk: with 1:500, a 0.2% move equals your whole margin on that position.
  • Plan for a negative balance: know what happens after the one-time USD 100,000 cover.
  • Keep sizes small: higher leverage is a ceiling, not a target.
  • Confirm in writing: ask Pepperstone to confirm your client category after approval.

Dažniausiai užduodami klausimai

Yes. Pepperstone Group Limited (AFSL 414530) offers a pro account to clients who qualify as sophisticated investors, through trading experience and a quiz, or as wholesale clients, through a wealth test with an accountant's certificate. Pros get up to 1:500 on forex and gold but lose the retail leverage caps and most negative-balance protection.

Usually, if it is a qualified accountant's certificate showing net assets of at least AUD 2.5 million or gross income of AUD 250,000 a year for the last two years. That matches Pepperstone's wholesale test under section 761G(7). Send it with your application and ask Pepperstone to confirm that it accepts the certificate's form and date.

Among the three brokers we cover, Pepperstone publishes a pro account in Australia with its criteria and leverage table. Capital.com holds an ASIC licence (AFSL 513393), but we have not verified its Australian pro terms, so ask it directly. XS holds no ASIC licence, so it cannot serve you as an Australian-regulated broker.

Pepperstone does: its Australian costs table lists 1:500 for pros on major and minor forex and gold, and its accounts page says 'Pro 500:1'. Major indices are listed at 1:400 in the table. We have not verified pro leverage at Capital.com in Australia, and XS is not ASIC-licensed.

For most traders, no. A pro account only lowers the margin you post; it does not make trades better. It is worth considering if you already trade large size, meet the test comfortably, and need the capital for other uses. If you would use the extra leverage to trade bigger, the account adds risk, not value.
