Best broker for crypto CFDs in Australia

Best broker for crypto CFDs in Australia: Pepperstone, ASIC-licensed, with Bitcoin and dozens of coins, retail leverage of 1:2 and no commission on crypto CFDs.

Na první pohled

Pepperstone is our pick as the best broker for crypto CFDs in Australia. It is licensed by ASIC (AFSL 414530), lists Bitcoin, Ether and dozens of other coins as CFDs, charges no commission on crypto CFDs and publishes its Bitcoin spreads. Retail leverage is capped at 1:2, as ASIC requires. At Best Trading Signal (BestTradingSignal.com) we rank Capital.com second, which also holds an ASIC licence, and XS third, the broker behind our free signals. XS holds no ASIC licence, so Australians should weigh that before choosing it.

  • ASIC-licensed: Pepperstone Group Limited, AFSL 414530
  • Retail leverage 1:2 on Bitcoin, Ether and every other crypto CFD
  • Bitcoin spread (Pepperstone's own data): average about 15 price points on Razor and 20 on Standard, no commission
  • Most crypto CFDs trade 24/7, with short breaks on a few symbols
  • No wallet, no coins: you trade the price, long or short
  • High risk: Pepperstone's Australian site publishes no loss percentage; crypto can move 10% in a day

Which ASIC regulated brokers offer crypto CFDs?

Pepperstone does, through Pepperstone Group Limited (AFSL 414530), and it is our first choice. Capital.com holds an ASIC licence too (AFSL 513393), but we have not verified its crypto CFD range for Australian retail clients, so check its product list. XS holds no ASIC licence: its licences come from Seychelles, Cyprus, South Africa and Mauritius.

An ASIC licence matters for crypto because it brings the retail protections with it: the 1:2 leverage cap, the margin close-out rule and negative-balance protection. If Pepperstone fits, you can open a Pepperstone account and try its crypto CFDs on the demo first.

Can I trade Bitcoin CFDs in Australia?

Yes. Pepperstone lists Bitcoin against the US dollar as a CFD in Australia, alongside Ether, Litecoin and many other coins. Pepperstone's figures for the range do not match: its accounts page counts 31 crypto CFDs, while its current ASIC margin table lists 44 coins against the US dollar, plus Bitcoin and Ether in AUD, EUR and GBP. Check the live symbol list in your platform.

Pepperstone charges no commission on crypto CFDs, even on Razor. Your cost is the spread, plus overnight funding if you hold a position past the daily cut-off.

What leverage can I use on crypto CFDs in Australia?

1:2 for retail clients, on Bitcoin, Ether and every other coin. That is ASIC's cap for retail crypto CFDs, and Pepperstone's Australian table applies it. In practice, you post half the value of the position as margin: a $2,000 Bitcoin position needs $1,000.

Professional clients get more on Bitcoin and Ether, 1:10 in Pepperstone's table, but other coins stay at 1:2 even for pros. A low cap is useful here. Bitcoin can move several percent in an hour, and at 1:2 a 50% fall is what it takes to wipe out the margin on a position.

What is the difference between a crypto CFD and buying crypto?

A CFD is a contract on the price; buying crypto means owning the coin. With a CFD you never hold Bitcoin, so you cannot send it, stake it or store it. In exchange, you can go short as easily as long, use a regulated broker's account, and trade crypto next to forex and gold on the same platform.

Can I trade crypto CFDs 24/7?

Mostly. Pepperstone's crypto page says that 'Most of our crypto CFD trading is available 24/7', with no weekend platform downtime. Its hours table still shows short breaks on some symbols, such as a Sunday pause on BTCAUD and a few altcoins, and the opening times differ slightly from day to day.

Weekend trading has a catch: liquidity is thinner, so spreads can widen and stops can fill further from your level. If you hold over the weekend, size the position for a bigger move than usual.

Where Pepperstone's crypto offer has limits

  • No coins, ever: you cannot withdraw Bitcoin or move it on-chain.
  • Retail leverage is 1:2: you need half the position's value as margin.
  • Range figures disagree: 31 crypto CFDs on one page, 44 US-dollar pairs on the margin table.
  • Funding on held positions: long-term holders pay overnight costs that a coin owner does not.
  • Breaks on some symbols: a few crypto CFDs pause on Sundays.
  • Stops can slip: Pepperstone cannot guarantee a fill at your stop level in Australia.

How do Best Trading Signal's crypto alerts work on Pepperstone?

Best Trading Signal covers crypto alongside gold, forex, oil and indices, and each alert gives an entry, a take-profit and a stop-loss. At 1:2 leverage, size the trade from the stop distance before you place it on Pepperstone. Pepperstone clients receive the alerts through a paid plan on our Telegram bot.

Our free route runs on XS: open an XS account through our link and deposit $400, which stays your own trading capital. XS is not ASIC-licensed, so an Australian taking that route trades with an offshore company. Every closed signal appears on our performance page. Past results do not guarantee future results, and no signal is certain to win.

Risk warning (Pepperstone): Pepperstone's Australian site publishes no loss percentage; read its PDS and Target Market Determination before you trade. Elsewhere, 73.6% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading spread bets and CFDs with this provider under the FCA, 74.1% under CySEC, 76.1% under BaFin, 80% under the SCB and 88% under the CMA (Kenya). You should consider whether you understand how CFDs work and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money.

  • Licence first: confirm the broker on ASIC's register before you deposit.
  • Margin at 1:2: keep enough free balance for crypto's daily swings.
  • Check funding: look up the overnight cost on each crypto symbol before you hold.
  • Know the hours: note which symbols pause on Sundays.
  • Start on demo: test a long and a short on Bitcoin before you use real money.

Často kladené otázky

Our pick is Pepperstone: it holds ASIC licence AFSL 414530, lists Bitcoin, Ether and dozens of other coins as CFDs, charges no commission on them and publishes its spreads. Retail leverage is 1:2. Capital.com is our second choice and also holds an ASIC licence; XS, our third, holds none.

It depends on where you live. In Australia, yes, at 1:2 for retail clients. In Germany and the EU, Pepperstone offers them at 1:2. Its UAE site offers 1:20 on Bitcoin and Ether. In the UK, no: the FCA bans crypto derivatives for retail clients, and Pepperstone's UK crypto offer is for professionals only.

Yes. A CFD lets you sell first and buy back later, so you profit if Bitcoin falls and lose if it rises. Pepperstone's crypto page confirms you can short. Losses on a short have no natural ceiling if the price keeps climbing, so set a stop-loss and size the trade before you open it.

Yes. Pepperstone's Australian crypto page names MT5 among the platforms you can use, along with TradingView, MT4, cTrader and its own platform. In Australia, MT5 comes with both Standard and Razor, while MT4 and TradingView need Razor. After you log in, check that the crypto symbols you want appear in MT5's market watch.

No. Pepperstone's own FAQ says that because you are not buying the coin, you do not need a digital wallet. Your profits and losses settle in your account's base currency, such as AUD. The flip side is that you can never withdraw coins, only cash.

Obchodování s forexem, CFD a kryptoměnami s sebou nese značné riziko ztráty a není vhodné pro každého investora – naše signály jsou názory analytiků, nikoli zaručený zisk, a minulá výkonnost nezaručuje budoucí výsledky.
